AWR completed the acquisition of Chaparral City Water Company (CCWC) on October 10, 2000.
CCWC is an Arizona public utility company serving approximately 11,000 customers in the Town of Fountain Hills and portions of the City of Scottsdale. CCWC's service territory covers over 12,000 acres, with a year-round population in excess of 19,000 and an estimated 3,400 seasonal residents.
The town of Fountain Hills is located in the metropolitan area of Phoenix, approximately 25 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix and 15 miles east of downtown Scottsdale. Located in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, Fountain Hills is bordered on the west by Scottsdale, on the south by the Salt-River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, on the east by the Fort McDowell Mohave-Apache Indian Community and on the north by the McDowell Mountain Regional Park and State land. The metropolitan Phoenix area, including Fountain Hills, is one of the fastest growing regions in the country.
CCWC water rates are regulated by the Arizona Corporation Commission (the ACC) on a cost-of-service basis. CCWC's current rate schedules are based on CCWC's most recent rate case, approved in 1991.
CCWC obtains its water supply from three operating wells and from Colorado River water delivered by the Central Arizona Project. CCWC's three wells, are capable of delivering approximately 4,000 gallons per minute of water to the distribution system, and are available to meet peaking demand, for alternate supply during treatment plant outages, for maintenance and capital improvements, and for alternate supply during CAP supply interruption.
